Auxiliary aand Legion Family Day of Remembrance
The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 28 and the Legion Family to include the Legionaires, the Sons of the Legion and the Legion Riders will hold two ceremonies to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrfice on 9/11/2001 and those who responded as well as those who continue the fight as members of America's Armed Services.
Guests will be Hugh Thornton a Legion member who was actaully trapped at ground zero and his dog, the local first reponders, and community and Legion members. The ceremony will be open to the public. The Auxiliary President will talk about working at the Pentagon but not on site that day - at US Army War College and reaction of military that day.
In the evening there will be a Candlelight Vigil and Prayer Service with the Auxilairy Colorettes and the Legions Riders forming a circle of honor while candles are lit in memory of those who perished. There will be a remembrance for participants to take home. The Auxiliary Chorus will sing patriotic songs and those in attendance will give a short staement of their remembrance of that day if they like.
The Day of Remebrance will be publicized through the post website - www.alpost28.com, the local newspapers - The Cape Gazette, The Sussex Countian and the Sussex Post - all friends of the Auxilairy. The day will continue to focus on the Auxilairy's mission to serve our veterans, our youth and the community. This Day will continue to further our programs that keep that day in perspective as we continue to work for our active duty military personnel, veterans, first responders and the community.
Attached are photos from last year's remembrance but we intend to magnify the presence as we commemorate the 10th Anniversary of that fateful day.
Any monetary gain from this submission will go to continue programs that take care of our service members, the first responders(the civilian force) and the community to continue to honor the scrifices of those who continue to keep America free,
