Freedom Day

In partnership with Entrepenuers for North Texas, AmeriCorps Alums of North Texas will engage 300 community members in service and reflection activites to commemorate the 9/11 National Service Day and the 10th anniversary of 9/11. Service projects  at several sites throughout North Texas will serve Texas Trees Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, the Innercity Community Development Corporation (ICDC), the African American Museum and the City of Dallas will address environmental and community enrichment needs in Dallas. A service-learning focus to these projects will help participants reflect on their experiences and share their feelings about 9/11 and the service day. The terrorist attack on 9.11.01 left our nation feeling a sense of helplessness and despair, and everyone wanted to take action. This event will show participants how to conquer these feelings through service to the community. AmeriCorps Alums of North Texas will promote our service through social media outlets to engage Alums and other community members in service. Through our event on 9/11 National Day of Service, we hope to show community volunteers how to turn paralyzing fear into an empowering sense of hope and idealism.
