9/11 Remembered Through Tears and Service

The Jones County Fire Council (composed of the 18 volunteer fire departments plus Ellisville Fire Department) along with the Laurel Fire Department, Jones County Sheriff's Department, Laurel Police Department, Laurel School District and Jones County School District propose to commemorate the events of 9/11 with a weekend of rememberance, recognition and service as follows:

Friday, September 9th - Jones County Firefighter, Law Enforcement and Emergency Medical Service Appreciation Banquet.  We desire to gather our emergency services personnel together for an event to remember the sacrifices of our brothers at FDNY, NYPD and New York Port Authority who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty of 9/11.  This will be a time of tribute, rememberance and fellowship which will honor the sacrifices of those who gave all and recognize the service of our local emergency responders.

Saturday, September 10th: We will partner with the Laurel School District (over 1,200 students and staff) and the Jones County School District (over 4,000 students and staff) for a Day of Service.  Students, staff, firefighters, law enforcement and emergency medical services personnel will join together to conduct community-wide service projects across Jones County which spans 701 square miles with 67,776 citizens.  We will pick up litter on roadways, deliver food to those who are homebound, hungry and needy, spruce up homes and yards of those elderly who are unable to do so themselves, clean up parks and public property and work to make our communties a cleaner, safer, better place to live.

September 11th - We will host a 9/11 Remembered Service at Jones County Junior College beginning at 2:00 p.m. which will be a time of somber reflection and involve the general public and representatives from all of the Jones County's emergency services agencies.  This will be a time of rememberance, of tribute and of honor to those who were lost on 9/11 and an inspirational time of dedication to continuanc of service to those who remain.  We will culminate the service with the release of ten white doves - one for each year that has passed since 9/11.  We desire to relay the spirit of America as seen on 9/11 to those who were not yet born or not old enough to be aware so that the blessings of liberty that we enjoy should never be forgotten.  This service will be an emotiional tribute.  On 9/11 all gave some, but some gave all.
